The Cypriot Monuments of UNESCO
Despite its limited geographical area, Cyprus is exceptionally rich in monuments of the Byzantine period. It is perhaps unique that so many monuments of historical, archaeological and artistic value are concentrated in such a small geographical area. This great heritage, with unique architecture and with its high artistic value and outstanding wall-painting ensembles, is considered of worldwide significance. For this reason UNESCO has declared ten of Troodos churches to be World Heritage monuments. For our Project we have studied the architecture of the church of Panagia of Asinou (1333 A.D) and the Church of Timios Stavros (Holy Cross) in Pelentri 12 century A.D.
